April: Springtime in Waterton

We've been aching for a quick trip to the mountains lately, but with a high snow pack and associated avalanche risks we decided to head out to Waterton and hike up the riverbed near the park entrance. A cool spring day for a mountain trip, that warmed up considerably when the Chinook wind hit us - 16 degrees by the time we got there!

It's cold in here
It was a perfect day for Cedar to start her Jr. Hydrologist internship:
Follow the leader in the funny hat

Thinking hard about picking the best route across the stream.

Oooomph, a bit faster here than I thought!

Phew, dry ground. Why did you make me do that Mom?
There was still snow on the ground in the shady spots, including a dog-playground-sized hard snowbank next to the stream that sent Cedar into a frenzy!

Rawr, take that, tree branch!

Look at me go!

Breakdancing, Cedar-style...
0.5 seconds before camera impact:

Incoming!  It's devil dog!
Well that tired her out enough to settle down for lunch - pesto, cheese and tomato on a nice sourdough bun for us, kibble for the furry monster.

Good thing he didn't get us with out mouths full, hey Mom?
Lunch provided just enough energy to have another go at the snowbank

The rare flatcoat-jackrabbit hybrid

I can fly
What's a day of fun without getting in trouble - someone can't control their mouthiness and decided to grab at pant legs instead. Not a good idea..."If you're not good Cedar, we'll feed you to the bears."

Sorry Mum, I didn't mean to...
Cedar keeping lookout for large hairy beasts.

Bears..you didn't tell me about any bears!

RADAR up! No bears...

Cookies for Bear Patrol?

I smell wieners...

Training is always more fun outside - Cedar learning 'get in' on a rock (helps if the penalty is a wet bum)

Is this right Mum? where's my treat?
All too soon it was time to head back to the car and make the drive home.

Crystal clear mountain water...
Any fishes in there?
Eventually Cedar decided she didn't want to be left behind and made the (tired) crossing back.
Heavy concentration!

Happy to be across using HER line of crossing :)

A great day in the mountains makes for a happy dog and happy dog parents. Have to go back again soon!
